The Refined Second Shooter Workshop

I’ve always believed that you should never stop learning. As a part of the Northeast Ohio wedding vendors community, I’ve learned so much from the amazing vendors that I’ve surrounded myself with over the past couple of years. Together, we cheer each other on, support each other, and (most importantly) we second shoot for each other, guaranteeing beautiful photos created by kind and supportive professionals for each wedding we work together.

I had the pleasure of meeting Kelsie at a family wedding during the summer of 2018 and I fell in love with her beautiful work and the loving way she served my cousin and her husband throughout their wedding day. I followed her on social media, I think before I even left the wedding, and found out about a workshop she was hosting that fall about how to be a Refined Second Shooter. I quickly signed up and attended. It was an absolutely amazing experience. The tips and tricks that Kelsie and Michelle shared with us were all the things they wish they knew when they first started out with weddings and the information I gained has forever changed the way I approach a wedding, both as a lead photographer and as a second shooter.

The most valuable piece of advice I gained was the attitude of service to the couple and the lead photographer rather than to my portfolio. I’ve learned that the focus on the needs of the couple or lead photographer being met or exceeded by my work has led to some even stronger relationships with my couples, my wedding vendor community members, and has made my awesome job even more fun. A portion of the workshop was focused on photography techniques with a styled shoot featuring this beautiful couple. We couldn’t have asked for more perfect weather or a more beautiful day for this Kate Spade themed mock wedding.

If you want to check out this workshop, Michelle & Kelsie have recently launched an Online Course so if you aren’t local to Columbus, you can still get all of the awesome tips and tricks, plus great downloadable info ranging from 10 Questions to Ask the Primary Photographer to a Go-To Gear Guide to 10 Ways to Build Your Business in the Off-Season and guides for how to photograph each part of the wedding day and master the techniques that we all use to photograph a wedding like off camera flash and mastering the elusive manual mode!

Thanks to all of the fabulous vendors who contributed to this styled shoot!
